Introduction

Hello everyone, I’m Almasur Antor (he/him), but you can call me Almas if you prefer that. I’m a freshman majoring in computer science, and I’m hoping to minor in either economics or mathematics. I was born and raised in the villages of Bangladesh, where I could actually see the sky full of stars at night, unlike here in the city. I came to the US when I was just 11 years old, and I’m 19 now. These 8 years of my whole life were a rollercoaster as I had to constantly move from one place to another. Speaking of rollercoasters, one of my highs would be being the valedictorian of my high school, and it’s actually a funny story. So, I was a very average kid in middle school due to the language barrier. But one thing about me is I’m very competitive, so my friend and I bet on who would get a higher GPA between us two in freshman year. He ended up getting a 96.52, and I got a 96.16, and we were the top 2 students in that marking period. Ever since that day when I lost by 0.36, I promised myself to beat him for every other marking period, and sure enough, every marking period I did and so I ended up being the valedictorian. If that taught me anything, it would be that you don’t need to be a “nerd” or a “born genius” to be the best, you just need to work the hardest because I can promise you my classmates were smarter than me, but they didn’t work as hard. That sense of competitiveness is something I try to implement into other aspects of my life, like sports, for example. I love sports, I don’t know what it is, but I loved every sport that I came across (too many to count). I played soccer and volleyball for fun during high school, but I enjoyed and got good at it so much that I ended up playing for my school’s team. Not to mention, after coming to CCNY last semester, I picked up ping pong in the game room and got pretty good at it. So, if you play any unique sport or want to learn any from me, let me know!
